"The Trees Remember is a fascinating trilogy penned by Joyce Kieffer about a young woman who longs to escape her backwoods home in the mountains of Pennsylvania for nurses training in Baltimore. Book one focuses on Rebecca’s troubled home life as well as the tumultuous three years of her nurses’ training. The second book recounts Rebecca’s return home and her groundbreaking work as a nurse in the dangerous mountain lumber camps. The author did copious historical research which is evident throughout the trilogy, and the medical details in the books are wonderful, as is the interwoven story lines of love, betrayal, friendship and family bonds. I highly recommend this series."

"Kieffer weaves a narrative focused on the late Nineteenth through early Twentieth Century America, which would grasp the soul of any reader interested in that era of American history. Her trilogy of books address God’s environmental creations, and include the people of that period, experiencing multitudinous challenges of every nature. Kieffer’s dedicated research, study, and “homework,” is exhibited at every turn of the page. Her professional life as a recognized veteran nurse with enormous responsibilities, is shared with the reader, enhancing the excitement and anxiety of the adventure. Praise and recognition are appropriate to recognize Ms. Kieffer’s authorship skills. Thusly, readers are enamored by the emotional excitements and adventures associated with that time period."

"I've been privileged to have a front-row seat watching my mother -Joyce Kieffer - research, write, interview, workshop, and edit, edit, edit these manuscripts for nearly seven years.  At 81, she plunged into this undertaking with energy and passion of someone half her years, forging her way into the self-publishing realm and opening up to new technology. In The Trees Remember, she has woven history and fiction together with autobiographical elements into a story at once sweeping and intensely personal.  Joyce has birthed two daughters, but these books are her children just the same.  What a beautiful legacy!"
